M. BaalamuraLikrishna - (born 1930) Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna is a
child prodigy who received brief training in music from Parupalli
Ramakrishniah Pantulu. He is a multi talented, self-made artist and
composer. His debut was at Vijayawada at the Aradhana of his guru's
guru. By the time his half-hour allotment was over the audience was so
thrilled that he ended up singing for two-and-a-half hours. His
resonant voice is full of vigor and he has tremendous range. He is
equally adept at playing the viola, violin, mridangam and the kanjira.
He is one of a handful of people who have composed in all the 72
melakartas. This remarkable achievement was completed by the time he
was in his teens. He has composed mostly in Sanskrit and Telugu and has
handled rare ragas, even evolving new ragas of his own. He has won a
number of titles and honors including Sangita Kalanidhi in 1979.
