Meaning: This song describes each of the 6 faces of Murugan. The first is the one who climbs on the peacock and plays. The second discusses philosophy (gnAnamozhi) with his father Shiva (IsharuDan). The third removes the troubles (vinai) of the calling (koorum) saints (aDiyArgal - those who have given themselves to god). The fourth holds (vAngi) the spear (vel) and stands (ninDra) in all the hills (kundruruva). The fifth destroyed (vadaitta) the changing (mAru) demon (sUrar). The sixth came to attract (puNara) the heart of Valli (a tribal chief's daughter - his wife along with Devayani). The six faces (aaru mugam) coming together (aana poruL), please bless me (aruLa vENDum), o God (perumAL) whose presence (amarnda) is at the ancient (aadi) Arunachala (the hills where his temple stands).
