nAgam punai shambhO - O Shambhu who wears snakes!
naTarAjA - o King of dancers!
puliyUr vAzh IshA - O Lord living in Puliyur(Chidambaram) !

caraNam 1

iruvar tam isai koNDa kAdA - O One who has ears taking in the music of two persons!
ingita pon pAdA - O One with delightful, beautiful feet ,
ninru naTam seyyum - that dance forever,
titti ena - with Jathis like "dhit thi" !
tirunAvalUran viDu tUdA - O Messenger, sent (to his wife) by Sundaramurti Nayanar, who hailed from TiruNavalur !
tillai sivakAmi oru pAgA - O One whose one half is Goddess Sivakami of Tillai (Chidambaram) !
cidambara nAthA - O Lord of Chidambaram !

Note 1 : Shiva gave a boon to two Gandharvas and accordingly wears them as ear ornaments to listen to their music always.

ezhu bhuvi tudikkinra tuyyA - O Pure one whom the seven worlds extol !
anbariDamAi irundu - Residing in ( the hearts of) devotees,
inbamuDan ALum - You make (them your) servants and give bliss ! ayyA - O Master !

engum niraindavA - O One pervading everywhere (such that)
neDiya mAl ayan - the lofty Vishnu and Brahma
tEDi kANAdu - searched and could not find !
elumbu ellAm aNindiDum pUNA - O One wearing bones as ornaments!
tamizhpANA - O One proficient in Tamil,
aDiyavar tozhum - whom the devotees worship !
tillai ampadi naTarAjA - O Nataraja of the beautiful place Tillai (Chidambaram)
ambalavANA - O Resident of the dancing hall !
